SBBO attorney Garth Gersten will present at a Colorado Bar Association webinar, “Insurance and Employment Issues for the Coronavirus.” The webinar, offered jointly by the Insurance Committee and Labor & Employment Section of the Colorado Bar Association, will be offered on Thursday, April 2, 2020 from noon to 1:00 p.m.

 

Garth Gersten Presents on Insurance Issues for CBA Webinar

 

Mr. Gersten is currently secretary of the Insurance Committee of the CBA.  In his Insurance Law practice he represents and advises policyholders in their disputes with insurers. Mr. Gersten has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America© every year since 2007.

The webinar will offer insights on insurance issues for the impacts of Coronavirus and how to protect your clients in the future. Further insurance topics include:

  • Whether businesses can recover for lost income and extra expenses under different types of business interruption coverages;
  • Proving a business interruption claim;
  • Event and travel cancellation insurance;
  • Whether exclusions for contamination (biological or pollutant) apply;
  • New policy forms for the risks of Coronavirus and similar viruses (possible topic).

On the Labor & Employment side the webinar will examine best practices for employers in planning for the possibility that a pandemic will impact their employees and business operations.  Further topics include:

  • How to deal with wage and hour issues
  • How to handle ADA and HIPPA concerns
  • The application of leave and FMLA policies
  • Restrictions on employee travel
  • Dealing with temporary layoffs

Co-presenters are Meryl Mills, a partner in the Denver office of Lewis Brisbois and co-chair of the firm’s Employment Advice & Counseling Practice and Shawna Ruetz, an associate at Lewis Brisbois and a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice.
