Otteson Shapiro is pleased to announce that Jennifer Milne has joined the firm’s Denver office as senior counsel.

Ms. Milne is an experienced litigator with an established history of resolving disputes for her clients at all stages of litigation, from pretrial settlement negotiations through successful jury verdicts and appeals.

Her practice focuses on insurance coverage and she represents policyholders in claims against their insurance companies. These include residential and commercial property claims for damage due to hail, wind, fire, water, smoke, and other covered causes of loss; general commercial liability coverage; uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage; and health insurance to a limited degree.  She also has extensive experience in personal injury, landlord-tenant, and complex commercial litigation.

Ms. Milne was responsible for creating Colorado Supreme Court precedent that furthered consumer protection rights by limiting the evidence insurance companies can use to defend against allegations of bad faith claims handling and unreasonable delays or denials in the payment of covered insurance benefits in the landmark case of Schultz v. Geico in 2018.

Prior to joining Otteson Shapiro, Ms. Milne practiced at a Fort Collins-based firm where she developed its litigation practice in the area of insurance bad faith claims.

Ms. Milne is a 2013 graduate of the University of Colorado Law School where she was an associate editor of the University of Colorado Law Review. She is currently a board member and co-chair of the Insurance Bad Faith Litigation Committee of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. She is also a participant in the Women Trial Lawyers Network.

Ms. Milne is a former downhill ski racer and she continues to explore the Colorado mountains with family, friends, and her dog Bella.  She enjoys listening to and participating in live music performances.
